Hull KR have wrapped up the signing of NRL utility man Karl Lawton on a long-term deal, the club have announced.
Lawton was released by North Queensland Cowboys on Thursday ahead of a move to a Super League club and, as expected, it is KR who have landed him, with the 30-year-old penning a three-year deal until the end of the 2028 season.
The Australian adds depth in a number of position for the Robins, given he can play at hooker, second-row or loose-forward. And, while KR’s pack looks fairly settled, his presence will certainly give Willie Peters options and added competition for places.
Lawton has made 115 appearances in the NRL, with stints coming at Gold Coast Titans, New Zealand Warriors and Manly Sea Eagles before he joined the Cowboys ahead of the 2025. He played 11 times for the Townsville outfit last season with his two starts coming as a nine.
Karl Lawton joins Hull KR
“I’m pumped, I can’t wait to start,” Lawton, who will wear the number 19, said on joining Rovers. “Hull KR are a successful club with a great reputation. Everyone that’s spoke about the club that’s been there in the past has loved it.
“Willie (Peters) has told me about his values and what this club stands for, and I just want to come and reinforce that.
“The fans already have something to cheer about with the great season they’ve had, I just want to replicate that and put my best foot forward and earn everyone’s respect.”
KR head coach Willie Peters added: “I’d like to welcome Karl (Lawton) and his family to Hull KR. Karl can play various positions, which will help balance our squad for 2026.
“Karl’s best positions are hooker and back-row. However, he can play loose forward and centre as well which will be a great asset for us this year.
“Karl’s biggest strengths are his effort areas and he’s a players others like to play with. We look forward to welcoming Karl, Katie and their children to the Hull KR family.”
