Hull KR injury latest as Willie Peters hopeful of double boost ahead of semi-final

Hull KR boss Willie Peters is hopeful of receiving a double injury boost ahead of the club’s Super League play-off semi-final clash.

The Robins sealed their second trophy of the season on Thursday night as they beat Warrington Wolves at Craven Park to secure the League Leaders’ Shield. And, they are now just 80 minutes away from sealing a chance to win the treble, with a spot in the Grand Final very much in their crosshairs.

Who they will face in the last four of the competition remains to be seen, but as it stands, either Leeds Rhinos, St Helens or Wakefield Trinity will be heading to east Hull with an Old Trafford outing on the line.

The expectation is that Joe Burgess will come back into the side after missing the last three games with a calf injury. Noah Booth played in his place on Thursday and scored two tries but Peters has confirmed the wing spot is Burgess’ if he’s fit enough to play.

Serious About Rugby League has launched a brand new podcast which can be watched in full on our YouTube channel here.

KR will also be hoping to welcome back veteran Micky McIlorum for their final games of the year. The hooker, who is expected to retire and take up a coaching role with Catalans Dragons after this season, fractured his ankle in August and hasn’t played since.

He hasn’t restarted training yet but Peters is hopeful that almost two months on from the injury, McIlorum will be able to return to have some say on KR’s play-off fate.

Willie Peters gives Hull KR injury update

“Joe will be alright so he will come back into the side, assuming he’s going to be OK,” Peters said on Burgess after watching his side lift the League Leaders’ Shield. “Tonight was great experience for [Booth], and we know that he can do a job, he’s a big body.

“They targeted him, they were kicking down that side and Sneyd’s got that left foot, he hooks it back and wobbles it. I thought he handled himself really well.

“Micky, I’m hopeful for the semis but at this stage I can’t give you anything. He’s got to run and we have to see where he’s at. I’m not sure.”
