Hull KR head coach Tony Smith provides latest on Lachlan Coote and injured duo Dean Hadley and Matt Parcell

Hull KR head coach Tony Smith will not rush star signing Lachlan Coote back from injury too soon.

Coote has played just twice for his new side so far in the 2022 Super League season, but Smith wants the Australian fullback to be fully right before rushing back.

“If I was a gambling a man, I’d bet you he probably won’t make it,” Smith said in his pre-match press conference.

“I want him to be not worried about it and I think it’s a fair pressure when you come to a new club because you want to get out there and show your teammates and everyone around you your worth but I think he will show us his worth further down the track.

“I would rather him take a couple of weeks off and the injury not play on his mind than rush back and try and prove a point.”

The Robins also saw Dean Hadley and Matt Parcell leave the field with knocks and Smith is unsure whether or not the duo will make it for this weekend’s fixture against Catalans Dragons.

“It’ll be touch and go for them at the weekend.

“If they’re not right then they won’t play – one was a dead leg with Matty (Parcell) and the other one was a knock to the calf for Deano (Hadley).

“Because he’s (Hadley) had a calf issue before in the same area we are taking it steady and we will see how they run it off in the next couple of days.

“We’ve got people waiting in the wings as well, we’re not going to take any risks to anyone at this stage.”
