Hull KR have allowed fringe player AJ Wallace to link up with Championship side Sheffield Eagles on loan. The forward will spend the next month with the Eagles initially with scope for the 22-year-old to extend his time in South Yorkshire.
Wallace joins the Eagles during what is a key month for Craig Lingard’s side with an 1895 Cup quarter-final clash against Bradford Bulls to be played on Sunday. Sheffield have a strong affinity with the competition and they’ll hope Wallace can help them pick up the win at Odsal and move to within one win of another run out at Wembley Stadium.
The club have won just one of their first four Championship games this season and with some key fixtures to be played against Toulouse Olympique, Doncaster and Batley Bulldogs this month, they’ll be looking to build some momentum.
Wallace will hope to play a key role with the club then and pick up some valuable minutes after struggling to catch Willie Peters’ eye at Craven Park. The second-rower has been with KR since joining from Bradford Bulls at the end of the 2023 season but he is yet to make a competitive appearance for the club.
And, as it stands opportunities look hard to come by with Hull KR, with Dean Hadley, James Batchelor, Rhyse Martin and Kelepi Tanginoa dominating the positions in the senior fold.
He spent time with Doncaster, Featherstone Rovers and Whitehaven last season, while he represented Goole Vikings earlier this year as part of the club’s dual reg programme. As such, he’ll be hoping to use his latest opportunity to put his best foot forward and make his mark, particularly with his contract due to expire at the end of the season.
Wallace started his career with Bradford and after making a debut for the club in January 2022, he went on to make 43 appearances for the Bulls, scoring 11 tries.
