Hull KR forward handed two-game ban possibly set for reprieve as RFL consider disciplinary changes

A Hull KR forward who has been handed a two-game ban could be set for a reprieve with the RFL set to consider amendments to their disciplinary system.

Robins forward Eribe Doro, who signed from Bradford Bulls for 2025, has been handed a two-game ban following a Grade C charge of ‘Late Contact on the Passer’.

That’s according to the RFL website with Doro’s case listed alongside two other players from the round of pre-season games over a week ago, one of which is Castleford Tigers signing Jeremiah Simbiken.

The RFL have confirmed a new disciplinary system for 2025, however, they recently confirmed that they would “reconsider” elements of it – particularly the fact that charges from 2024 carry over.

Serious About Rugby League understands that changes were discussed last week and are set for consideration today before the official disciplinary system is set in stone prior to this weekend’s Challenge Cup matches.

With the recent news that changes would be considered, it’s come as a surprise that Hull KR forward Doro’s Grade C charge has elicited a two-game ban meaning the forward is set to miss this weekend’s Challenge Cup tie against York Knights and Rovers’ Round One clash with Castleford Tigers.

However, there could still be a reprieve for Doro with the RFL confirming to Serious About Rugby League that cases listed on their website still operate under the new system in which charges carry over.

Should those historic charges be removed from the system, which as mentioned will be discussed today, then Doro would evade a ban and simply be handed a fine for picking up five disciplinary points.

Historic charges were the main source of controversy on the new disciplinary system as it meant that some players would be walking a tightrope from the get-go.

The new system has been compared to that of a driving licence whereby points and charges remain on it for 12 months before being wiped clean. Players will accumulate points for their misdemeanours with punishments dished out once certain thresholds are hit.

That was why the concept of points carrying over was so controversial because some players were already on the precipice of bans. Hull KR forward Doro was one of those and this Grade C charge (5 points) has added to his previous points to take him into the 12-14 point threshold which equates to a two-game ban.

Bans are set to start at six points meaning that with a clean record, Doro’s Grade C charge would not have elicited a ban.

Hull KR will learn whether their forward is banned when confirmation about whether historic charges remain on a player’s record comes later in the week.

Elsewhere, Castleford Tigers Jeremiah Simbiken was handed a Grade C charge for ‘Head Contact’ eliciting five points and a fine, whilst York Knights’ Jesse Dee was hit with a Grade A charge of ‘Dangerous Contact’ earning him one penalty point.
