Hull KR forced to issue warning to supporters

Hull KR laid down a real marker on Sunday with a thumping win over Leeds Rhinos as they won 26-4.

That likely sparked even more excitement amongst their fans ahead of the new season.

The Robins are looking ahead to the start of a new era in 2023 as Willie Peters takes charge and things get properly underway on February 18th when they host Wigan Warriors in Round One.

A tough opening game, one they lost in last season’s Round One fixture, but there will be greater optimism after the win over Leeds on Sunday.

As the club promote tickets for the game they have sadly had to issue a warning to their fans.

This comes after what the club call “an increase” in scammers offering tickets to the game.

In a statement on the club’s website, they said:

“We’ve seen an increase in fake accounts / scammers offering supporters tickets across our social media channels. Please avoid them and only purchase your tickets from the club. We cannot be held responsible for any tickets bought from unofficial channels. Thanks.”

So, even though fans will be excited by the win over Leeds, it seems the club wants them to direct that excitement into buying tickets from them rather than “unofficial channels.”

Fans are not the only ones excited. Peters himself noted how impressed he was by the win over the Rhinos:

“It’s pleasing for the players to go and put in a performance like that, friendly or not a friendly.

“It is a good marker, we know go that is our minimum standard and build from that.

“I’m sure the players will have an expectation of doing that every week.

“We’re not going to get ahead of ourselves, we have always been working towards that Round One game against Wigan Warriors.”

In terms of picking his Round One side, Peters said it is now harder to pick a side after Sunday:

“It makes it harder, absolutely it makes it harder. I can’t think of a player who was poor today. There is an expectation that you work hard and compete for each other and everyone did that.

“We want to work hard for each other through the good and bad. There will be some performances this year that we won’t be so proud of but we need our best and worst to be close together.

“We need that consistency. We’re a close team, we’re connected as a group and I think today was a perfect friendly in terms of having 12 men, we defended our line 30 odd times before they scored.”
