Hull KR fans have been responding to the news of their latest signing ahead of the 2025 Super League season.
The Robins have announced the capture of Michael McIlorum on a one-year deal with the 36-year-old bringing an end to his seven-year spell in the south of France with Catalans Dragons. McIlorum has been signed to replace the outgoing Matt Parcell it seems, with the veteran set to add yet more leadership and experience to KR’s pack.
Of course, McIlorum has been there and done it in Super League and after starting his career at Wigan Warriors, he has gone on to win two Grand Finals and three Challenge Cups. He’ll be keen to end his spell with Catalans by collecting another Grand Final win before heading over to east Hull to help the club pick up their first piece of major silverware in 40 years.
He becomes the fifth player Rovers have signed for next season following Catalans teammate Tom Davies, Eribe Doro, Bill Leyland and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and it’s his partnership with the latter that Hull KR fans are starting to get excited about.
Both players are at the back end of their careers, but the thought of the pair hitting top form together with the Robins has supporters salivating on social media.
“That is a great signing. Still a great player and hard as nails. Him and JWH in the same pack is some prospect,” one fan said on X in response to the news, which dropped without warning on Thursday night. “Him and JWH next season,” another said followed by an eyes emoji.
Another agreed: “Hargreaves and McIlorum in the same pack….at least we won’t get bullied.”
“This is like the Ben Reynolds signing, I’m going to have to like him now he plays for us! Adds that bit of quality to the team,” someone else commented.
Meanwhile, one supporter pointed to the relationship McIlorum is reported to have with his former Dragons teammate Tyrone May, who will be playing alongside the hooker in the spine.
“Wow. This is amazing. Hard, tough man, what a signing. I hear from Mitch Pierce on Matty Johns’ podcast that him and Tyrone May are tight. Cheered me right up,” he wrote.
