Hull KR fans impacted as major road closure confirmed

Hull KR fans travelling to the Brick Community Stadium are due to be impacted by a closure of the M62 this evening. The Robins will be well supported as Willie Peters’ side take on Wigan Warriors in a top of the table Super League clash.

The two sides are locked on 38 points at the summit of the division and with just two more rounds to play after tonight’s fixture, the result in Wigan promises to have a huge say on the destination of the League Leaders’ Shield. Win and KR will be within touching distance of picking up their first major trophy since 1985.

Matt Peet’s side will be the favourites to pick up the league crown, though, should they secure the coveted two points this evening. Indeed, it’s arguably the biggest game of the season so far and the Cherry and Whites will be ready to welcome a sizeable crowd.

Those KR fans travelling back to east Hull tonight will have already been prepared for a lengthy car journey home this evening following the full-time hooter. However, that journey has been made even longer by tonight’s scheduled M62 closure as National Rail demolish Castleton railway bridge near Rochdale.

The motorway will close between junction 18 and junction 20 eastbound, meaning those travelling to East Yorkshire from Greater Manchester will be sent on a significant diversion.

According to National Highways, the diversion will take drivers down the M60 and the A663 before bringing drivers out at junction 20, via the A627.

It’s less than ideal, of course, but how long the elongated journey feels may just depend on the result at the Brick Community Stadium.

Leigh Leopards fans travelling to Castleford Tigers will also be impacted by the closure with westbound lanes being closed between junction 20 and junction 19.
