Hull KR were dealt a major injury blow just minutes into their enormous Super League clash with Leeds Rhinos on Thursday night.
The Robins were already without veteran prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves in West Yorkshire, with the New Zealander being hit with a two-match ban earlier this week. And, with just three minutes on the clock at Headingley, they saw Sauaso Sue limp out of the action.
Sue hit the deck after being tackled by Rhinos second-rower Morgan Gannon with any contact looking innocuous. However, replays showed the powerhouse prop making knee to knee contract with Gannon, with the collision leaving Sue in some pain.
The prop received treatment on the field before being helped from the action and straight down the tunnel by a member of the Rovers medical staff.
Of course, the full details of the issue are yet to emerge, but it looks unlikely that Sue will be return to the action this evening against Brad Arthur’s side. Willie Peters will have his fingers crossed that the injury isn’t as bad as it perhaps first appeared, especially as the Robins approach the end of the season and beyond.
After beating Wigan Warriors last week, KR have the opportunity to move eight points clear at the top of the Super League table with a win this evening. With just four more games to play that would all but decide the fate of the League Leaders’ Shield.
Leeds know that a win over KR would see them move level on points with Wigan in the league table at least until the Warriors face off against play-off chasers Wakefield Trinity.
