After going so close last year, Hull KR enter 2025 with silverware well and truly on the mind. The Robins were runners up at Old Trafford in October and after falling to the same fate in the Challenge Cup final in 2023, Willie Peters will have his side in a determined mindset as they approach the new Super League season.
Rovers have made nine off-season signings, with Jared Waerea-Hargeaves, Michael McIlorum, Tom Davies and Rhyse Martin being among the most high profile, while the likes of Bill Leyland, Eribe Doro and Leon Ruan have been made with the future and strength in depth in mind.
However, it would seem as though Rovers are already ploughing on with their recruitment for 2026, with Arthur Mourgue said to be wrapped up from Catalans Dragons and, as reported elsewhere, Connor Wynne is set to make the move from Featherstone Rovers in a deal that Serious About RL understands is almost complete.
It’s fair to say the club have some key decisions to make this year when it comes to retention, too. Nine members of their current group are now in the final year of their contracts and that includes some major names.
McIlorum and Waerea-Hargreaves both signed one year deals with the Robins and their performances will decide whether they are offered the chance to stay on beyond the 2025 season. Waerea-Hargreaves has already expressed an interest in staying on Craven Park, but a decision probably won’t be made there until later in the year.
Dean Hadley is entering the final year of his current deal, too, and while the forward does turn 33 this year, his contract is surely one the club are keen to sort sooner rather than later. The back-rower, who can also play through the middle, was one of the club’s outstanding performers last time around and his form will surely see him rewarded.
Niall Evalds is another whose contract expires this year. The full-back joins the Robins from Castleford Tigers on a two-year deal ahead of the 2024 season and on the back of his remarkable first year at the club, his future will surely be high on Rovers’ list of priorities, despite him turning 32 in August.
Sauaso Sue has caught the eye since making the move from Newcastle Knights in 2023 and he may well be another the club are keen to keep hold of beyond the end of the season, while Tyrone May is also in the last season of the two-year deal he signed when he joined from Catalans Dragons.
Here’s where the addition of Mourgue intrigues, though, with the playmaker set to represent the Robins in 2026. An opening needs to be created and while May and Evalds are out of contract, one of them may have to make way for the Frenchman.
AJ Wallace, Neil Tchamambe and Connor Barley complete the nine-man list, but their Hull KR futures will likely be determined by the progress they make this year.
