Hull KR confirm star has undergone surgery

Hull KR have confirmed that star halfback Mikey Lewis has undergone surgery this week.

The surgery was done to amend an injury sustained against Warrington Wolves this season.

It was not the same ankle that he injured against Hull FC at the Magic Weekend.

Fortunately, Lewis will be ready to go in 2023 with the Robins set to start the season against Wigan Warriors at home on Channel 4.

He will be ready to go in time for their training camp in Tenerife.

In a statement on the club website, the Robins said: “Hull KR can confirm Mikey Lewis has undergone minor surgery for an ankle issue sustained during the 2022 season.

“The Robins’ maverick halfback sustained a syndesmosis ankle injury in KR’s 30-22 win over Warrington in July. Lewis underwent surgery in late October and is expected to return in time to the team’s warm-weather training camp in Tenerife.

“After helping England Knights to victories over France B and Scotland, the timing of Lewis’ surgery will give the Robins’ star ample time to return to the training field before the 2023 Betfred Super League season.

“Lewis’ ankle surgery was on the opposite ankle to the one injured in the Challenge Cup win over Castleford early in 2022. With 8 tries in 17 appearances during the 2022 season, including an inspired hat-trick over Hull FC at Magic Weekend, Lewis will look to kick on in 2023 as part of Willie Peters’ new era at Hull KR.”
