Hull KR confirm partnership with “iconic” brand

Hull KR have announced another new partnership for the 2023 season with  what the club has described “the iconic and local favourite brand, American Chip Spice.”

It is the third partner they have confirmed in three days after they confirmed dog food providers ProDog Raw on Wednesday and backed that up yesterday.

It comes as the Robins get their off field things in order in the hope that they can impress IMG as Super League heads for licencing.

This partnership will see Chip Spice feature on the Robins’ in-stadium content and uniquely on the first team’s kicking tees.

Chip Spice was created in 1979 by Ron and Brenda Wilson, and was registered as a limited company in 1993. It is now run by their son, Edward Wilson, who runs American Chip Spice and Wilson Seasonings. He explained why Chip Spice continues to get involved in the Hull community – despite its relocation.

‘My parent’s creation became such a huge hit in Hull, our company really wouldn’t be where it is today without it. Over the years, Chip Spice has become iconic in this city, just like cream telephone boxes or patties. It’s not just a seasoning anymore.

‘Before becoming City of Culture in 2017, there was a sense that Chip Spice only belonged to Hull, but since then there’s been a real drive to promote it to people visiting this fabulous city. I’ve seen Chip Spice on t-shirts and artwork. I think I even heard that there was a song, if you can believe it! That’s why it’s so important to me to give back to the community. I love sharing this connection with Hull’.

In addition to the sponsorship of the Robins, Chip Spice has announced its support for Community teams in the area too, getting involved with East Hull Rangers (a grassroots football team who play in the Sunday Football League) and Humber Warhawks (a British American-football team with players from across Humberside). It has also sponsored Hull Marathon for several years, including its return in 2022 after a hiatus caused by the pandemic.

Hull KR Chief Executive Paul Lakin is excited to add the local delicacy to our growing portfolio of partners: ‘Chip Spice has become synonymous with our city and local culture, one of the first questions our overseas stars get asked when they move to the area is, have you tried Chip Spice yet?

‘We are therefore delighted to partner with the team at American Chip Spice, and give them a platform to tell the wider world about the joys of adding Chip Spice to their fries.”
