Hull KR have announced a contract extension for one of their most promising young players.
Teenager Connor Barley has signed a new deal which will keep him at Sewell Group Craven Park until the end of the 2025 Super League season.
The 19-year-old centre was a try scorer in the first of his four Super League appearances against St Helens in August, 2022.
He was top try scorer for the Robins’ reserves last season, has also featured on loan for York Knights and crossed twice in six appearances on dual-registration for Featherstone Rovers this term.
“I’m delighted to re-sign with Hull KR,” he said. “I’ve been here since I was a scholar and there’s no place I’d rather be to continue on my journey.
“I’m enjoying continuing my development here and I’m looking forward to what the future holds.”
Barley revealed: “I feel like this year me and Willie [Peters, Hull KR’s coach] had some honest chats about where I was at and what I needed to work on. I’ve gone away and done that.
“I’ve really taken on the feedback Willie and coaching staff have given me and I’m starting to show that in the Championship.
“It’s all about patience and learning my craft and who I am as a player. Hopefully I can do that and push for a spot in the first team.”
Peters reckons the Hull-born youngster has a bright future. “We’ve been really happy with Connor’s development over the last 12 months,” the team boss said.
“I’ve seen maturity and growth in him on and off the field. Connor has played Championship this year and definitely held his own.
“He has shown physically he is capable at that level, now it’s about being consistent in playing in the Championships and the reserves to take that next step towards being a Super League player.”
