Hull KR close to landing new boss following Tony Smith’s departure

Hull KR are reportedly close to announcing their new head coach following the departure of Tony Smith at the end of the season.

Smith will leave Craven Park after three years at the club, having taken the reins back in 2019 when the East Yorkshire club were struggling with potential relegation.

Since then, the 55-year-old has transformed Rovers into a play-off hunting side willing to fight tooth and nail for each other.

Now, though, Hull Live has revealed who is the frontrunner to take over, with Willie Peters the name being mentioned.

Peters currently holds the role of assistant coach at Newcastle Knights, with the former Wigan Warriors and Widnes Vikings star expected to take over ahead of the 2023 Super League season..

The current Newcastle man has worked under the likes of Wayne Bennett as well as former Hull KR player Anthony Seibold – who had been linked with the job in April.
