Hull KR captain lauds praise on new signings

Hull KR are in for an exciting season with it being the first under the reign of new head coach Willie Peters and the Robins aiming to return to the playoffs.

In order to do that they’ve recruited in quality and quantity with three huge NRL signings in addition to plenty of Super League signings.

The major names from the NRL are centre Tom Opacic from Parramatta Eels, with Opacic set to debut tonight for Rovers, and forwards Sauaso Sue and Rhys Kennedy.

From the English game Rovers have also added plenty with Wakefield duo Yusuf Aydin and James Batchelor arriving as well as Sam Luckley and Louis Senior.

Captain Shaun Kenny-Dowall is one man who is very optimistic and he spoke with The Sportsman in a video released to their Twitter about the squad.

“I think we’ve made some great signings, we’ve got a lot more depth. We had lots of injuries last year but we’ve got a lot more cover this year and the guys we’ve brought in are quality as well.

“It’s been tough, it’s a different approach with Willie coming from the NRL but the boys have taken to it very well.

“We’ve done a lot of work and we’re adapting to new systems and a different style of play and I think it’s going to to work for us.”

Peters takes charge tonight in Craig Hall’s testimonial with Rovers travelling to face Featherstone Rovers.

Skipper Kenny-Dowall won’t feature with Peters having a clear focus on youth for the first pre-season hit out.
