Hull KR bring in Catalans Dragons star as Willie Peters explains move

Hull KR

Hull KR have confirmed the immediate signing of France international Arthur Mourgue from Catalans Dragons. Mourgue has penned a three-and-a-half year deal with the Robins and that ensures he will be with the club until the end of the 2028 Super League season at least.

The 25-year-old joins the club after spending his entire career to date with the Dragons, making 103 appearances and scoring 25 tries under Steve McNamara. He has featured four times for the Dragons this season, with a try coming against Hull FC, but he was a notable absentee on Saturday as Catalans beat Featherstone Rovers in the Challenge Cup.

And, the reason for his omission has now become clear with Mourgue joining up with Willie Peters’ table toppers. Mourgue makes the move with Niall Evalds expected to leave the club in order to join Huddersfield Giants.

That was first reported by All Out Rugby League and it comes after some cryptic comments from Peters regarding Evalds after the club’s 40-0 Challenge Cup win over Oldham.

Mourgue has the ability to play across the spine, with the Frenchman comfortable in the halves or at full-back and, depending on how soon he links up with his new Rovers teammates, he could even make his debut for the club next Sunday when KR face second placed Leigh Leopards.

“We’re delighted for Arthur to join Hull KR. His strength is his running game. We’re looking to further develop that,” Peters told the club website.

“Arthur’s other strength is his pace and he can play multiple positions. Arthur is an 80% plus goal kicker which will certainly help us in the short-term.

“This is a major move for Arthur and his partner to come from their home country to England. However, it shows the commitment they are both making to want to be a part of the Hull KR family.”
