Hull KR head coach Willie Peters has plenty to smile about right now but he’s still finding flaws in his side’s performances.
Hull KR went six from six following their 50-4 victory over Huddersfield Giants and Peters admitted that he’s happy that they’re able to adapt to games better this season.
Talking to Sky Sports after the match, he said: “We weren’t too happy with the first half. We were off in certain parts of the game, things that we pride ourselves in weren’t great but what I was really happy about was that we adapted extremely well.
“We found our groove in the second half. We wanted to move the ball more and we did that, we wanted our halves to touch the ball more and they certainly did that. We’re really happy with our defence first and foremost.”
Peters on reaching milestones with his side and aiming for success
Peters has said they’re not getting too carried away but admitted that instead, they’re celebrating the small wins across the season with the hope of winning big at the end of it all.
He added: “We always talk about celebrating little wins along the way and I think you’ve got to do that when you reach milestones, especially with a club like ours.
“We haven’t had success for a long period of time so it would be easy to not say too much about it but we’re really happy with the start that we’ve had.
When asked about whether Hull KR are a champion side yet, the Hull KR coach said that they’re just taking it week by week, especially with some big games in the coming weeks.
He said: “We believe in ourselves but there’s certainly a long way to go before we can win things.
“We’ve got a quarter-final next weekend in the Challenge Cup so we’re still alive in that, we’re certainly going after that. We’re going after the League Leaders Shield and obviously, after the Super League title because we’re in all of them at the moment.
“We’ve started the season well but we know what’s ahead of us and we know how quickly rugby league can change.”
Hull KR boss on Arthur Mourgue’s debut and what he adds to his team’s dynamic
Peters also touched on his new signing Arthur Mourgue after he made his debut for the Robins on Sunday afternoon.
The Rovers boss said he’s had an eye on him for a while and believes he can take his side to the next level.
He finished: “I’ve admired Arthur since I’ve been over here and watching him play at Catalans, he can do things that other players can’t. He can change a game.
“Last year’s Grand Final was won and changed by arguably the best player in the competition, Bevan French, so I think Arthur’s got the capabilities to be able to change a game so does Mikey Lewis.
“That’s what we wanted to bring in and we’ve certainly brought in a player that’s going to be valuable to us.”
