Hull KR boss Willie Peters gives Niall Evalds injury latest amid one doubt

Hull KR boss Willie Peters has confirmed that Niall Evalds will be fit and in contention to play in round two of Super League. After edging out Castleford Tigers in golden point on Friday night, the Robins go to Wakefield Trinity on Thursday night in the hope of continuing their strong start to the campaign.

Evalds was the only real issue to come from their opener at Craven Park and there had been concern about whether he would be fit on the shorter turnaround after injuring his ribs.

Peters, though, has confirmed that the full-back has trained this week and he will be ready to go once more at Belle Vue, where KR will face a Wakefield side that are fresh off the back of beating Leeds Rhinos last time out.

“Niall is looking OK,” Peters said in his pre-match press conference. “We have a couple there that we just have to wait and see – maybe one, at the end of the week to see where he’s at. Other that that we’re going OK, Niall will be fine.

“I won’t say [who], I’ll wait until later in the week because he could be OK. We’ll wait and see where he’s at.

“Everyone else is OK, obviously there was Niall with his ribs but he’s good, he’s trained and did the full session so he’s in a good place and everyone else was OK.”

Peters has named the same 21-man squad for two straight weeks with KR heading into the Castleford match with a the same group that beat York Knights in the Challenge Cup. That squad included Sam Luckley, who missed much of pre-season after undergoing surgery on a wrist issue.

Peters hasn’t played the prop yet following his recovery from injury but he’ll be in contention once more this week.

“He’s going OK,” the Hull KR man added. “He’s doing a little fitness and he’s doing everything now which is good.

“It’s just getting him back up to speed. We’ve only just started the competition and there hasn’t been any injuries or suspensions, the guys are going well there that middle pack so Sam has to just keep working hard and he’ll get his opportunity at some stage for sure.

“He’ll be in contention but I was happy with a lot of what the middles were doing but I know when Sam gets his opportunities he’ll do a good job for us as well.

“We’ll pretty much go with the same 21. As I say, there might be some possible changes but we’ll wait and see at the back end of the week.”
