Hull KR head coach Willie Peters has spoken out to explain why he has opted not to apply for the vacant Newcastle Knights job.
The job Peters has done at Hull KR has not gone unnoticed Down Under seemingly and the Australian is starting to see his name linked with jobs in the NRL. The Rovers boss was linked with a position at Perth Bears earlier this year but more recently he has been touted as a potential candidate for the head coach job at the Knights.
Peters isn’t the only man to have been linked with former KR man Blake Green thought to be a potential candidate, as well as ex-St Helens boss Justin Holbrook, and, speaking to Fox League’s NRL 360, Peters’ agent Braith Anasta confirmed that Peters had been invited to apply for the position.
However, Anasta went on to add that Peters wouldn’t be throwing his name into the hat, with what he is doing at Super League being at the forefront of the head coach’s mind at this point.
Peters has always been clear in his desire to make a return to the NRL at some point in his career, but he won’t be taking the Knights job and the Rovers boss has spoken out on his thought process.

“I don’t want any distractions for this back end of the year with Hull KR, where we’re going and what we’re doing,” Peters said in his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s Hull derby. “It’s my sole focus to prepare these players and work with the staff to make sure that we give this back end of the year what it deserves and that’s putting everything into it.
“I’m not going to say to the players that we need to be committed for the next six weeks if I’m there going to interview for jobs in the NRL and then come back and say ‘boys, I’m back in now’.
“It doesn’t work like that, you need to be 100 per cent committed to what you’re doing. I’m not going to interview. I’m very comfortable to say that in terms of my focus is what I’m doing to prepare these players to hopefully put ourselves in a position to go and get the treble.
“That would be an unbelievable achievement for the club. There’s a lot to go in that but that’s where it stands, my focus is here.”
