Hull KR boss Tony Smith responds to Leeds Rhinos speculation

The name Danny Ward has been mentioned, so has Danny McGuire, whilst Ryan Carr and James Webster have also been touted as men for the Leeds Rhinos job on a permanent basis.

Whilst the Daily Telegraph Down Under believes the favourite is former Featherstone Rovers head coach Ryan Carr, the bookies are telling a different story.

Tony Smith is now the lead favourite at 5/2 with Danny Ward close behind at 7/2.

And, in Hull KR’s post-match press conference following their win over Leigh Centurions in the Challenge Cup, Smith addressed those rumours of a possible departure to Leeds.

“I’m coach here and I’m focused on coaching here,” he told the Hull Daily Mail after the game.

“My job is to prepare my team and get them ready for each and every game – that’s what I do.

“I don’t owe anybody or have to please my supporters by telling them what I’m doing next year at the moment.

“I’m quite at ease not knowing what my future is. I’ve said that all along.

“All that future stuff will work itself out. What’s going on at another club has nothing to do with us.

“I haven’t discussed my future with anybody and I’m not going to discuss it publicly until I discuss it privately – and it’s usually with my boss at home!”
