Hull KR boss Tony Smith has his say on Leeds Rhinos job

Tony Smith has distanced himself from the Leeds Rhinos job.

Since Richard Agar left his position at Headingley at the beginning of last week, the rumour mill has been going into overdrive about who will take over.

But, it will not be Smith – who had a successful spell with the Rhinos early on his UK coaching career.

“It is your job to speculate not mine. My job is to prepare my team and get them ready for every game,” Smith told Sky Sports.

“I don’t owe anybody or have to please my supporters by telling them what I am doing next year. I am quite at ease not knowing what my future is and I have said that all along.

“What is going at another club has nothing to do with us. I haven’t discussed my future with anyone and I am not going to discuss it publicly until I discuss it privately and that is usually with my boss at home.”

Smith was also keen to share his sadness with the departing Agar who he described as a good friend.

“One of my good friends has just resigned from there and I feel for him. He put his heart and soul into it and it is a tough decision to come up with when you have been so involved.

“That’s where my thoughts have been. As to who gets the next job, honestly I spend zero time thinking about it.”

Smith will face Castleford Tigers this weekend in the Challenge Cup Quarter-Final at Craven Park.
