Willie Peters has made it clear that Hull KR are willing to loan more of their fringe players out to other Super League clubs in the coming weeks.
The Robins have already loaned two players out to top flight rivals this season, with Danny Richardson joining Huddersfield Giants before the start of the season and Lee Kershaw making the temporary switch to Castleford Tigers last week.
Richardson played just one game for the Giants before being recalled by the Robins ahead of round two.
With Mikey Lewis ruled out with an ankle issue and Tyrone May in need to a fitness test on Wednesday, Richardson looks set to get his chance in a red and white shirt on Thursday against Salford Red Devils and his loan at Huddersfield ensures he won’t be stepping into the fold completely cold.
As such, the loan has been useful for both Richardson and Rovers, and Peters is keen to utilise the market with other players down the line.
“I try and want to get as many players out, if they’re not playing for us, to Super League if they’re available,” Peters said. “It became available for Richardson in round one which was always going to be a positive for him, playing Super League again.
“There could possibly be some others over the next few weeks if clubs want and need players, we’ll always look at it. The way it is over here at the moment with the reserves set up, Super League clubs want an option and Championship is your next best after that depending on who you’re playing.
“Look, we wanted to get Richo some game time. Huddersfield were in need of him and we thought it was a good fit. The more that these players play, the better it is for everyone.”
Kershaw made his Castleford debut on Saturday night with the winger featuring in the heavy loss at home to St Helens.
“I thought he had a really good start to the game,” the Hull KR boss added. “Obviously he dropped that one ball but in terms of carrying and putting his hand up I thought he did a lot of work.
“He’s obviously going into a new system so he has to adapt but he’s not the only one that dropped one on the weekend. I thought he was OK on his first performance, he’s certainly trained well.”
