Willie Peters expects James Batchelor to miss another two Hull KR games as the back-rower recovers from a throat injury.
Batchelor picked up the injury during last week’s win over Castleford Tigers, taking a knock to the area, and he missed the home clash with Wakefield Trinity as a result. Fortunately for the Robins, his injury coincided with Rhyse Martin’s return with the Papua New Guinea international playing his first game since February on Friday night.
That ensured Batchelor’s absence wasn’t notable against Daryl Powell’s side, but the sooner he returns, the better for Peters. Speaking in midweek, the Rovers head coach was unable to give a firm timeframe on how long the back-rower will be missing, with Batchelor set to see a specialist.
However, the head coach has now revealed that all being well, Batchelor could well be back in contention in a fortnight’s time.
“Probably another couple of weeks,” Peters said. “He still hasn’t got his voice back fully yet so that needs to come back.
“We don’t want to take any risks because if he gets another knock there, he might sound like my mate Shaun Kenny-Dowall…
“He needs to get that right first. Hopefully another two weeks.”
Willie Peters on Hull KR victory over Wakefield Trinity
Peters was speaking after watching his side pick up their 11th straight win in all competitions, seeing off Wakefield 34-10 at Craven Park. The clash wasn’t as one-sided as the scoreline might suggest for the most part, but KR did enough to move six points clear at the top of the table.
“We knew it would go that way, Wakefield are a very good team,” Peters said on the contest. “When we played them in round two, I kept saying that they’re a good team and they’re going to beat a lot of teams this year and they have.
“They’ll be fighting for that top six at the back end of the year. I don’t think we were that bad in the first half, they were good. I wasn’t happy with the tries, they probably got them not easy but I think we’ve defended better. They’re a good team, they run shape really well and work hard.”
