Hull KR boss gives injury update on Arthur Mourgue and Micky McIlorum and talks Jared Waerea-Hargreaves ban potential

Hull KR

Hull KR head coach Willie Peters has offered an update on the fitness of Micky McIlorum and Arthur Mourgue as the Robins prepare for the Grand Final.

The Robins booked their spot in the Grand Final with a 20-12 win over St Helens on Saturday night but it came at a price, with Mourgue having to leave the field late on through injury.

The Frenchman took a hit from Morgan Knowles in the ribs and had to leave the field shortly after, allowing Jack Broadbent the opportunity to step into the action off the bench for the final 10 minutes of the game.

Rovers were without Micky McIlorum, too, despite the hooker being named in the 21-man squad for the game earlier this week.

McIlorum hasn’t played since mid-August after fracturing his ankle, but is pushing himself to play once more before he retires at the end of the season.

Willie Peters on Hull KR injuries

“I need to see how he is,” Peters said on Mourgue. “We had Jack on the bench and Arthur had a couple of plays there that he’d like to take back so I wanted to get him some game time. I need to go back and speak to our head of performance and see where we’re at.

“He was close but anyone else we wouldn’t be talking around the possibility of players but I could just tell he wasn’t right.

“We’ll see for next week. I don’t want Micky to go out not playing. I want him to go out in the right way playing in a Grand Final. That’s what he deserves. We gave him up until this morning to play but he wasn’t right.”

There could be some concern around Jared Waerea-Hargreaves too, as Rovers approach the Grand Final. The prop is walking a disciplinary tightrope and it was his challenge on Jon Bennison that ultimately saw the winger fail a HIA. The challenge wasn’t penalised by the onfield referee but given Bennison was ruled out for the remainder of the contest, there could be some concern when it comes to the Match Review Panel.

“It’s one of those, out of my hands,” Peters said. “I don’t look too much into it, naturally I think what’s it like and have a quick look at it but once there was no penalty, I moved on from it and I was focused on what we were doing.

“I’d hate to think that he goes out for the last game of his career when a penalty wasn’t given. But I understand the player as well. Let’s see how he is and have a look at it afterwards.”
