Hull KR boss gives injury update and provides Oliver Gildart latest

Hull KR head coach Willie Peters admits Oliver Gildart is a big doubt for this weekend’s Challenge Cup semi-final clash against Catalans Dragons.

Gildart picked up a knee injury inside the opening few minutes of KR’s Magic Weekend clash with Salford Red Devils and had to be helped off the field by the club’s medical staff. Speaking after the game, Peters outlined his hope that the injury might not be as bad as first feared.

However, with the semi-final looming, the centre is waiting to see a specialist who will determine the severity of the injury, whether surgery is required and if he could feasibly play this weekend. As such, Peters hasn’t ruled out Gildart when asked by journalists about the injury but he hasn’t confirmed his availability, either.

The head coach was able to confirm better news regarding Tom Davies, Joe Burgess and Kelepi Tanginoa, though, with all three set to come back into the fold after missing games through injury.

Davies has overcome the shoulder issue he sustained in Rivals Round while Burgess and Tanginoa have recovered from head knocks. Jared Waerea-Hargreaves will be included, too, after being rested last time out.

“Tom and Joe are fine and will be back, as will Kelepi,” Peters said during his pre-match press duties.

“Jared is fine too and was more a case of just resting, while Kelepi had to have the week off for concussion protocols. Tom Davies could possibly have played but it was always about giving Noah Booth an opportunity.

“Gildart, there is something there which we can see on the scans, now he has to see a specialist about whether he can play and we will see how it goes off the back of that and whether he will be okay or if he needs surgery. We should know more later on Thursday. In terms of what happens next we will be led by the medical advice.”
