Hull KR boss Danny McGuire bemoans yet more injuries but hails ‘guts, commitment and determination’ in big win over Toulouse Olympique

Hull KR took on Toulouse Olympique tonight at Craven Park live on Sky Sports.

Hull KR started the brightest of the two sides with Elliot Minchella crossing the whitewash first before the French side slowly clawed their way back into the game.

Matty Russell and Daniel Alvaro crossed before the half-time break to send Toulouse into a 12-6 lead.

And, Latrell Schaumkel dotted down following the resumption to make it 16-6.

Ethan Ryan managed to dot down from a superb Rowan Milnes kick to bring the home side back to within six and Frankie Halton eventually brought them level with a scintillating score after a brilliant break by Shaun Kenny-Dowall.

The momentum was firmly with the hosts now, and Milnes was able to cross with five minutes to go from a scrum to strike a dagger into the hearts of Toulouse.

Winning head coach Danny McGuire was enthused about his side’s efforts, though he does want Rovers to improve with the ball.

“I’m proud again, there were some things in there that weren’t pretty with the ball but guts, commitment and determination to get the game done – I can’t knock them,” McGuire said.

“We lost another couple of players to injury. It wasn’t picture perfect and at times you would think ‘ooh I’m not sure about that.’

“We defended like our lives depended on it.”

Those injuries were suffered by Phoenix Laulu-Togaga’e and Sam Wood who both left the field early with leg and shoulder problems respectively.
