Hull KR returned to the top of Super League yesterday with a thumping win over Catalans Dragons as they put in the performance of Magic Weekend and won 36-4.
The Robins ran in eight tries, double what any other team did across Magic Weekend, but Mikey Lewis only managed to convert two of them meaning KR left 12 crucial points on the table.
With how close the race for the League Leaders Shield is set to be, those points could be crucial, particularly as Hull KR are still set to travel to face second-place Wigan.
The brilliant victory was marred by allegations, made by Mikey Lewis, that Catalans’ Cesar Rouge bit the England star, something Lewis would explain further in his post-match interview on Sky Sports.
He explained: “Rugby league is a tough enough sport as it is and to bite in it as well. It’s not in the game, and like I said, I’m not going to say anything more than that.”
Fans will likely get to hear a verdict on the matter today when the Match Review Panel meet to discuss all the disciplinary fallout from the weekend, however, Robins boss Willie Peters has also commented.
Hull KR boss comments on bite allegations
Peters spoke with BBC Humberside after the game and was asked about the allegations made by Lewis.
“Yeah, I don’t know anything to be honest,” the Hull KR boss explained.
“I haven’t spoken to Mike, he came up and hugged me and that’s all we’ve said at the moment so I’ll find out a little bit more information and have a look at it as well.”
Whilst Lewis was off-par with the boot he still put in a strong performance, however, the Man of the Match medal went to captain Elliot Minchella who bagged himself a brace and he came in for plenty of praise from Peters.
“He’s been consistent all year and that’s why he’s getting the medal (Man of the Match) he got today. That’s why he’s played in the England team this year and that’s why he’s got to go to a meeting again with the England team this week because he’s playing consistently.”
They’ll need that consistency when they travel to face St Helens on Saturday in the first of five huge games to determine whether they win silverware for the first time since 1985.
On the clash with Saints, Peters said: “We’ve got all competitive and tough games. It’s just game by game and week by week. I know it’s cliche but it is and we know what St Helens bring so we just need to focus on us and getting our recovery right and having a good week of training so we can build for that game.”
For that, they’ll be without Oliver Gildart who failed a HIA whilst James Batchelor was carrying “a bit of an ankle issue”.

The Diciplinary Panel must look at this most carefully, as a top police investigation would, a large number of Fans have! and it looks clear to many fans of our game! IF and it is up to the Panel to decide, but the rugby league world will study their decision! If this is a false accusation then for The Good of the Game, it must be treated the same as if it was found to be a bite. A very talented young player, who needs to calm down.

Firstly, I’m not sure what point you are trying to make here. I’m sure the disciplinary panel will look at this carefully – almost not worth saying really, but if you are suggesting they will find it’s a false allegation, I don’t think it works like that. Either the findings will be that there is enough evidence to charge the Catalan player, or they will say insufficient evidence. You seem to be suggesting they may return a finding that Lewis was lying and therefore charge him with the same as if the biting WAS proven? Not an option. My hope would be not proven, ot because I think it’s not true, but the game doesn’t need this kind of publicity, and the media have already gone overboard, suggesting the biting incident overshadowed the game. Absolute nonsense.
Personally I would like to see some censure against SKY for asking a player to comment on an incident to be reviewed. Lewis should have declined to comment but he is not yet old enough to have the maturity to be aware of that.
