Hull KR announce superb investment news

Hull KR have confirmed that the Rovers Supporters Group, (RSG), will become the 2022 Academy Shirt Sponsor, following a significant donation by the McNicol family.

The RSG logo will proudly feature on all academy playing shirts for the 2022 season, helping to raise awareness for the much-loved supporters group which now raises funds to invest in the youth structure at the club.

Keith Lyon of the Rovers Supporters Group is delighted to see the RSG name carried across the shirts of the group they do so much to support and said: “This year is the 25th Anniversary of the Rovers Supporters Group being formed, and in that time through the support of fans, groups, family and friends we have managed to raise a considerable amount of money that has helped the club survive some horrendous financial times.

The McNicol family have been one of our strongest supporters throughout these years, and it is down once more to their generosity that that name Rovers Supporters Group will now appear on the shirt worn by the academy players in 2022.

We believe this is a fitting tribute to everyone who has supported the RSG over many years, and aligns with our mission which is to provide funds to invest into the next generation of home-grown talent.”

The McNicol family added: “As a family we have always believed that the lifeblood of Hull KR is the development of talented young players through the academy system. Excellent training facilities, dedicated coaching, and a commitment to personal growth. This provides the club with players who understand the Robins culture and enjoy a reciprocated loyalty with our supporters. We are very pleased to be helping this important part of the Hull KR team, and we wish the club continued success.”

Hull KR Chief Executive Paul Lakin is proud to see the RSG logo on the academy shirts for the first time: “The RSG was of course initially formed to secure the short-term future of the club, and provided funds to sign players at a time where administrators were fighting to keep the doors open.

“So, in this 140th anniversary year of the club, and 25th anniversary of the formation of the RSG, it’s so pleasing to see everyone aligned, looking towards the future, and investing in the next generation of talent.

“We said at the start of the year our focus was not on looking back, but instead looking at what we can do to put the building blocks in place for the next generation. From rebrand, looking to purchase the stadium, and now further investment into our academy.

“We are so grateful to the McNicol family and all of the RSG committee and supporters who back it. I’m sure the late, great, Colin McNicol will be looking over this new partnership with pride.”
