To the surprise of many, Hull KR star Jordan Abdull has left the club on a season long loan.
The former England international has joined Catalans Dragons on loan until the end of the 2024 season in a major shock.
Abdull made his England debut at the home of the Dragons the Stade Gilbert Brutus in 2021 after being nominated for the Man of Steel Award that season.
However, persist injuries have sullied his career and he has now left the club ahead of the 2024 season for a season long loan despite the fact he agreed to a long term deal at Craven Park until the end of 2026 last season.
The club issued the following statement: “Hull KR can confirm Jordan Abdull has joined Catalans Dragons on a season-long loan ahead of the 2024 Betfred Super League Season.
“The loan will see Abdull head to the South of France subject to a medical for the extent of the new season with no recall option.
“Having first joined the Robins on loan in 2017, the halfback went go on to join Hull KR permanently ahead of the 2019 Super League season, making 60 appearances for the Red and Whites.”
Speaking on the move, Hull KR Head Coach, Willie Peters was very honest about the proceedings and said: “Jordan and I sat down and had a good, honest conversation of where he was at both on and off the field. During the conversation, we discussed the opportunity for Jordan to join Catalans Dragons that was on the table.
“After a few days of reflection, Jordan chose to take up the opportunity with Catalans and we will not stand in his way.”
Jordan Abdull made his professional debut on 29 June 2014 for Hull FC against Wakefield at the age of 18. The two teams had separated on a score of parity (20-20) and the English playmaker had scored his first points in Super League by scoring a penalty.
At the end of a remarkable 2021 season where he had totaled 4 tries and 13 assists in 13 Super League games, Jordan Abdull was called up to the England team to face France on October 23, 2021 at the Gilbert Brutus stadium. England won 30-10.
Born in Hull, he wore the colours of both teams from his city during his career by making his debut with Hull FC before joining Hull KR where he played 4 seasons.
Capable of bringing danger at any time, the England international playmaker is blessed with an excellent kicking game, causing problems for most Super League defences.
With 10 seasons spent in Super League after spells at Hull FC, London Broncos and Hull KR, Jordan Abdull has totalled 30 tries and 260 points in 129 Super League games.
After a 2021 season marked by a Super League semi-final against the Dragons, Jordan Abdull was rewarded with a shortlist nomination for the Man of Steel title, eventually won by mastermind of this move Sam Tomkins.
