Hull KR and Warrington Wolves were the only two sides in action over the weekend as they met in the Challenge Cup final.
It was an intense and gritty contest at Wembley Stadium with both sides doing everything in their power to get over the line and get their hands on the trophy. KR were the side to do that with Tom Davies’ last ditch effort presenting Mikey Lewis with the opportunity to seal the points and make history from the tee.
It wasn’t the cleaning contest and a number of incidents will be looked at this morning by the disciplinary panel going into round 14 of Super League. Here’s a look at some of the players who might well be sweating ahead of today’s disciplinary verdict.
Hull KR and Warrington Wolves players sweating on disciplinary verdict
We’ll start at the beginning of the game when Joe Burgess clattered into Josh Thewlis while chasing a kick to the corner. The winger appeared to make contact with Thewlis’ head with the rear of his shoulder as he braced for impact but there was some mitigation, with the winger in the act of falling to the floor.
It was penalised by referee Liam Moore but that was the only action taken, with some believing the magnitude of the game and the timing of it may have played a role in any decision making.
Jared Waerea-Hargreaves caught Paul Vaughan high early on, too, but the Warrington man slipped into the challenge, providing mitigation once more.
Warrington targeted Jack Broadbent aerially and physically in the first half but Luke Yates overstepped the mark when he caught the full-back high with a swinging arm.
Ben Currie was the man at fault for Rovers’ first two points when he caught Lewis high and gave him the opportunity to kick a penalty.
Finally, in the second half of the contest, Hull KR prop Sauaso Sue was accused of spitting in the direction of Thewlis. The incident was placed on report by Moore and it will be assessed whether there was any malice or intent before a decision is made.
