Hull KR faced off against Warrington Wolves last night and that rare Tuesday night of Super League action left fans and media alike asking one key question: when would the disciplinary verdict be heard?
The Match Review Panel that considers all the disciplinary misdemeanours from the Super League action always meets on a Monday, following the conclusion of the round, with any bans being enforced for that week’s games.
A separate Match Review Panel is then held later in the week on Thursdays to consider the disciplinary actions for the Women’s Super League, Championship and the reserve competitions. What differs here is that rather than bans being enforced for the weekend’s games, they’re pushed back a week.
With Hull KR and Warrington facing off in a fiery game on Tuesday, the questions of not only when the disciplinary panel would meet, but also when any bans would be enforced were quickly asked.
It’s now been confirmed to Serious About Rugby League that the Hull KR and Warrington game will be reviewed on Thursday but any possible bans will not be enforced until round 25.
That means that should any bans arise from Tuesday night’s game, something that appears likely, then players would not miss the round 24 games against Toulouse Olympique (Hull KR) and Huddersfield Giants (Warrington Wolves).
Instead, Hull KR players would be banned for the clash against Wigan Warriors in round 25, whilst Warrington players would be banned for their round 25 game against Hull FC.
Hull KR are perhaps most fearful of bans, with Mikey Lewis already carrying 7.75 penalty points, meaning even a Grade A charge would result in a one-match ban. After his sin bin late on for making dangerous contact to Ewan Irwin when he charged a kick down, there’s a strong assumption that Lewis will be charged, and therefore banned meaning he and 2024 Man of Steel Bevan French would not face off in round 25.
Tevita Pangai Jr, who was over nine penalty points on his record, will be another player at risk of a ban meaning he too could miss that Wigan clash after his swinging arm towards James Bentley.
