Hull KR and St Helens stars among men sweating Super League disciplinary

Super League disciplinary

Hull KR and St Helens men will be sweating today’s Super League disciplinary verdict after the weekend’s action, it’s fair to say.

Round 17 of Super League was an eventful one to say the least with the top two sides in the competition both falling to defeats.

Wigan Warriors were edged out 18-8 by Leigh Leopards on Friday night, with Leigh hammering home just why they find themselves in the top four at present. Rovers then missed the chance to move six points clear at the top of the division as they suffered just their second loss of the season.

Leeds Rhinos deserve all the credit, defending spectacularly and frustrating the Robins before scoring what will go down as one of the tries of the season, which was finished by Lachie Miller.

St Helens remain fifth after they overcame Hull FC at the MKM Stadium, while Wakefield Trinity occupy sixth spot after their win over Catalans Dragons.

Warrington Wolves underperformed but got the job done against Salford Red Devils on Friday night, while Huddersfield Giants overcame Castleford Tigers on Thursday night.

A number of clubs will be waiting nervously to hear from the Match Review Panel today, though, with suspensions a possibility as we approach the business end of the season.

Here, we take a look back at some of the moments which will be looked at by the disciplinary panel.

The players who will be sweating Super League disciplinary after round 17

A total of three players were given sin bins across the round, with Zac Woolford being the first for a late shot in the passer as Huddersfield took on Castleford. The hooker was shown a yellow card with less than a minute on the clock but it didn’t seem to have too much on an impact on the Giants’ performance.

Salford Red Devils’ Ryan Brierley was given a yellow for a repeated penalties, but that’s unlikely to lead to a ban, while Sam Tomkins of Catalans Dragons was sin-binned on Saturday night for tackling Tom Johnstone off the ball.

An incident was placed on report on Sunday with Leeds Rhinos’ Harry Newman making an accusation of gouging. Who the accusation was directed at was hard to see with a number of KR men in the tackle, but it will be studied this morning.

St Helens’ Morgan Knowles may also be worried after hitting a Hull FC kicker late. The incident went unpunished but it will be looked at.
