Hull KR and Leigh Leopards learn opponents as Challenge Cup semi-final draw made

The draw for the semi-finals of the rugby league Challenge Cup have been confirmed with Wembley now on the horizon.

Holders Wigan Warriors were knocked out of the competition by Hull FC with that result opening the competition up, but there is now a new clear favourite with the bookmakers supporting Hull KR after they cruised into the semis with a win over their city rivals.

Hull KR won 32-16 despite losing star man Mikey Lewis to an injury with the Robins joining Catalans Dragons and Leigh Leopards in the semi-finals.

Catalans had defeated Salford 20-12 on Friday night whilst Leigh secured a victory of the same scoreline when winning at Wakefield Trinity that same night.

The fourth and final team in the hat was unconfirmed at the time of the draw with the draw taking place at half-time of Warrington Wolves versus St Helens, conducted by Wire fan Stuart Pearce and former St Helens captain Jon Wilkin.

Challenge Cup semi-final draw creates two mega match-ups

Pearce and Wilkin conducted the draw at the half with the ball details confirmed previously. Catalans were ball number one, Leigh number two, Hull KR number three and the winner of Warrington and Saints was ball number four.

With Wire and Saints tied at 6-6 at half time, there was no indication who would be the fourth quarter-finalists when the draw was made but it was confirmed that the winner would play 2023 winners Leigh Leopards That winner turned out to be Warrington as they progressed with a 20-12 win over Saints.

The semi-finals will be played on the weekend of May 10th and 11th with neutral venues set to be confirmed in the coming days.

Those games take place a month before the final which will be played at Wembley on June 7th with Hull KR and Leigh both bidding to return for the first time since 2023, when they met each other.

    If I could pick Hull KR vs Leigh Leopards, a reply of 2023, two teams both making huge strides forward in the sport, and more importantly within their communities. It would be a real tonic for the sport. Admittedly as a Rovers a fan a repeat of the 30-0 would be nice.
