Hull KR and former Leeds Rhinos hooker Matt Parcell has reportedly been shopped to another club.
That’s according to the Courier Mail which has revealed that Parcell is a target for the Brisbane Broncos with a view to returning to the NRL after five seasons in Super League.
Parcell was a member of the Ipswich Jets team which made history by becoming the first side in the club’s history to win the premiership after beating Townsville in the 2015 Intrust Super Cup grand final.
The wily number nine played six games for the Broncos in that year and then another 15 for Manly Sea Eagles in 2016 before a move to Leeds Rhinos came about ahead of the 2017 season.
Parcell won the Super League Grand Final in his first season with the Rhinos, but left on-loan for Hull KR in 2020 and then permanently at the end of 2020.
Known for his toughness and conniving nature around dummy-half, Parcell has scored 45 tries in 117 games for Leeds and Hull KR, but the Courier Mail has revealed that he is hunting a deal back home.
Parcell has been offered to the Broncos, but Brisbane recruitment chiefs are reportedly content with hookers Jake Turpin and Cory Paix, though Turpin has been linked with a move to the Dolphins which could prompt Brisbane into the market.

The timing of this report sounds odd. The NRL is only three rounds into the 2022 season. Clubs do not have spare money under their salary caps to buy extra players for this season. They are not looking to buy players for 2023 yet:- they will want to see how their current crop go over the next six months. At the Broncs, Turpin is off-contract at the end of the year; Paix is contracted for 2023 as well.
The Dolphins are the exception. They will ENTER the competition in 2023, and are gradually hiring players for that season. I could understand why they would be interested. Especially since Matt is an Ipswich boy and Redcliffe (where the Dolphins are based) is only an hour away. Also, because the Dolphins have made a big play of hiring Queenslanders for the new club.
My money is on him staying in the UK for the rest of the season, and if he then goes back to the NRL, he ends up at the Dolphins.
