Match Report:

After struggling recently due to injuries and the shock announcement that Tony Smith would be leaving at the end of the year, Hull KR needed to shrug off their poor form with a fast start and they did cross for a try within 12 minutes thanks to leader Lachlan Coote.

The fullback chased down his own kick to score converting it himself to make it 6-0. Two minutes later, it was 12 points for Coote as he backed up a Matt Parcell break to touch down converting to make it 12-0.

A third try followed shortly after the 20-minute mark this time from a scrum seeing Ryan Hall stroll over down the left. Coote’s precision persisted as he made it three from three with the boot.

Salford needed a respond and eventually it came and it came through Ryan Hall’s former Leeds teammate Kallum Watkins as he reacted fasted to a bit of madness on the tryline to give the Red Devils hope. However, a drop goal from Coote on the stroke of halftime, his 15th point of the first half, helped extinguish that hope.

That set the tone for the rest of the game as Hull KR would stamp out any suggestion of a comeback with a fourth try and another for Hall on the back of a great Shaun Kenny-Dowall run and offload.

The rest of the game was something of a tide of tries with Hall’s fellow winger Ethan Ryan getting in on the act on the hour mark prior to another try down the right from his centre Ben Crooks to make it 37-6 as Coote continued to be prolific with the boot.

Things got worse for the Red Devils when Harvey Livett was shown a yellow card on the back of the try. However, in his absence, Salford scored with Deon Cross scoring from a Ryan Brierley grubber kick.

In the last five minutes the two teams traded tries which didn’t affect the outcome or the story of the game. First, Crooks joined Hall and Coote in the brace club as he got his second and Hull KR’s seventh before Joe Burgess rounded off the scoring with a late try to end the game at 43-16.
