Hull KR 26-10 Castleford Tigers: Highlights, player ratings and talking points

Hull KR ran out 26-10 winners over Castleford Tigers tonight at Craven Park in what ended Rovers’ losing streak and extended Castleford’s own to three games without a win.

It wasn’t without controversy with Castleford being handed two yellow cards in the first-half whilst the Tigers were on the wrong end of a huge penalty count.

The Tigers also seemed to run out of steam in the second forty minutes with the visitors down to 11 at one point.

Highlights

Mikey Lewis and Niall Evalds going for hell for leather in a superb sprint to the line in the second-half. Evalds won the race, but it was great to see Lewis take it on.

Sam Wood has had a nightmare first few weeks in a Rovers shirt, but performed superbly well against Castleford tonight with two well-taken tries.

Jordan Turner scored his 100th career try with a fine effort.

Talking points

1. Cards galore

Another two cards were dished out tonight with referee Liam Moore deciding to send Castleford Tigers pair Bureta Faraimo and Liam Watts to the sinbin. Both were questionable, but with the new rules taking hold, Moore was insistent on sending the Tigers duo for a ten-minute breather.

2. Cas hard done by

Granted, Castleford have been poor so far this season. But, there were a number of penalties that went against the Tigers that were quite baffling. Faraimo tackling Will Dagger in the air was the most obvious with the Hull KR fullback losing the ball before a Castleford player even laid a finger on him.

3. Hull KR click

Hull KR looked more like the Robins in 2021 with Mikey Lewis having a field day and the likes of Sam Wood and Elliot Minchella having stellar games. Matt Parcell and Jez Litten combined expertly to take the game away from the Tigers in the second-half.
