Hull KR 25-24 Huddersfield Giants: Three major talking points and player ratings

Hull KR brought an end to a heart-breaking start to the season. After two one-point losses in their first three games, Hull KR claimed a narrow win themselves built on the back of a magnificent first half. Huddersfield however remain winless in the league as the concerns begin to increase for Ian Watson’s Giants. They were, however, the second half’s better side.

Major Talking Points:

1. Fastest Super League try ever

7 seconds. 7 seconds! That’s all it took for Ben Crooks to open the scoring in tonight’s game creating history as he put the ball down. It stands as the fastest try in Super League history and is 4 seconds faster than any try ever seen in Australia’s NRL. It was the perfect way to start a brilliant game and showed just about anything can happen in Super League

2. Giants have to start Gaskell at fullback next week

The Giants were flat and truly outplayed in the first 40. Their attack offered little and there were even questions over whether the returning Aidan Sezer was actually fit. However, in the second half Huddersfield unearthed a brilliant combination as Sezer and halfback partner Jack Cogger combined with Lee Gaskell who came on at fullback and ripped the Robins to shreds out the back. Huddersfield will be without the injured Ash Golding for some time and Gaskell might have just solved Huddersfield’s problem in the fullback position.

3. Abdull solves Rovers’ drop goal question

Hull KR conceded three drop goals in their first three games of the season twice suffering absolute heartache as they lost in golden point. Yesterday in front of the Sky cameras assistant coach Danny McGuire told the world that in light of that they’d been working on drop goals this week. It paid off as the brilliant Jordan Abdull gave Hull KR their first win of the season with a well struck drop goal that ensured the Robins avoided a third instalment of golden point this season. Up until that point he’d been brilliant so it was a well-deserved winning point for the Rovers scrum-half.
