Hull KR are going to Wembley after an amazing Challenge Cup semi-final against Wigan Warriors at Leeds Rhinos’ Headingley Stadium.
Highlights:
What a start
The Robins could have been forgiven for feeling hard done by when Ryan Hall pulled out of the side late before kick-off but they stood up to early pressure before a delightful scrum move saw Louis Senior slide in at the corner.
Magic Mikey
Hall’s injury saw Mikey Lewis moved to fullback and Ethan Ryan moved to the wing. Lewis showed his worth with amazing footwork to confuse the Wigan chasers when they looked to trap him in goal.
Field carves through
Hull KR had the better of the first half but they were behind when Jai Field was given enough space to weave through and score in the corner.
SKD intercepts
Up against it at this point in the game, Shaun Kenny-Dowall turned the game when he intercepted but sadly he couldn’t go the distance but the Robins were now building pressure.
Wigan notch two points
After absorbing a spell of pressure themselves, Wigan went down field and nailed a penalty to make it 8-4.
Shorrocks sees red
At the start of the second half the game took a huge shift as Joe Shorrocks was sent off for a high tackle on Mikey Lewis.
Shaun Kenny-Dowall yellow
Wigan though would extend their lead with a penalty when Shaun Kenny-Dowall was sin binned for pushing a chaser.
Robins pull level
Hull KR pulled level with a try in the corner from Ethan Ryan created by a Shaun Kenny-Dowall offload.
Schneider wins it
Just like last week when it came to golden point in extra time, Brad Schneider stepped up and nailed the drop goal to win the game this time from miles out.
Talking Points:
Key calls
The game was a great one but two cards, and the question over whether Toby King deserved one as well perhaps will dominate discussions.
Drama galore
This is what sport is all about and we should relish days like this with drama and atmosphere being at their highest possible level.
Game management
Both sides did their best to throw away good chances to see out the game. This feels like a constant in close games.
Red card costs Wigan
Ultimately you have to say the red card cost Wigan as they were in control of the game at halftime.
