Hull FC’s new signing Kane Evans opens up on move and first impressions of teammates and city

Kane Evans has arrived at Hull FC ahead of the 2022 Super League season.

The new recruit looked at home as he entered into his first training session with the Black and Whites

With over 130 appearances to his name Down Under, representing Sydney Roosters, Parramatta Eels and the Warriors, the front row forward has plenty of NRL experience, as well as featuring regularly for his country since 2013, alongside fellow new recruit Joe Lovodua.

The 29-year-old, who is known for his powerful running style and hard-hitting defence, also has representative honours with NSW City and the World All Stars.

Evans had his first session with the Black and Whites yesterday and he told hullfc.com about it.

“Yesterday was a bit of a recovery day for me because of the two days of travelling I had done,” he said.

“Paul [Hatton] has been really good with me. I got a good flush on the watt bike in the morning and then I had a little massage. I also got to do a little bit of recovery in the hot tub, which was pretty cool!

“I was supposed to wrap up for the day there, but I decided to get stuck into a weights session in the afternoon because I was falling asleep through the jet lag!”

There are one or two familiar faces within Brett Hodgson’s squad that Evans knew prior to arriving yesterday morning, including former Paramatta Eels team mate Manu Ma’u.

Forwards Chris Satae and Ligi Sao have also encountered Evans before, having played against the prop back in Australia.

And, the Fijian international was grateful for the warm welcome he received from the group.

“I really enjoyed getting to know everybody. All of the boys have a really good energy and they’ve given me such a warm welcome, so I feel at home already,” he explained.

“From what I’ve heard, Hull has some really good spots which I’m looking forward to checking out.

“It’s taken a bit of getting used to the temperature – it was about 27 degrees when I left a few days back. Literally, when I left the airport at Manchester it started snowing and that was the first time I had ever seen snow!”
