Jake Trueman hopes to be able to make a playing return for Hull FC before the end of the Super League season. The half-back has become the latest Hull player to be ruled out through injury after picking up a muscle tear close to his Achilles tendon.
As such, Trueman is currently wearing a protective boot and after detailing to the issue to the media on Thursday afternoon, interim head coach Simon Grix expressed doubt about his ability to play again this season, with just seven games to go until the curtain comes down on another campaign.
Trueman has struggled with Achilles injuries in the past and his game time during his spell at the MKM Stadium has been limited because of that. The club won’t be rushing him back to action given his injury record either.
The 25-year-old has taken to social media to give supporters an update, though, and outline his hope of playing again before the end of the season.
“Appreciate all the love in the comments, Achilles is all good just pulled a muscle in my calf,” he said while replying to a Hull Live post on X.
“Nothing too serious, hopefully get a few games in before the end of the season.”
Trueman is facing something of an uncertain future at Hull with the club bringing in Jordan Abdull and Cade Cust for 2025, with the latter yet to be announced. FC are said to be keen on landing Lachlan Lam from Leigh Leopards, too, amid reports of a move being on the cards for the half-back.
As such, Trueman, who started his career at Bradford Bulls before going to Castleford Tigers, has been linked away from the club, with Wakefield Trinity said to be in the frame.
