Hull FC’s Jake Connor has started the 2022 Super League season like a house on fire.
He has tallied a superb 12 assists so far, despite missing a game with two assists against Huddersfield Giants yesterday.
Hull ended up victorious over the Giants, 14-6, with Connor praising the Black and Whites’ forwards for laying the platform for his devastating running and passing game.
“If the forwards don’t put in the work they have done in the last couple of games then I don’t have the platform to play the way I can, so credit to them once again,” Connor told the Hull FC website.
“I think it was one of the toughest games we’ve had so far this year.
“Huddersfield don’t always throw a lot of shape at you, but they’re very good at sticking in games and that’s what they did against us.”
Connor and the Huddersfield fullback Tui Lolohea went into yesterday’s game level on the assists leaderboard, but it was the Hull fullback who has now taken the lead.
Despite that, the former Huddersfield number one hailed Lolohea.
“He’s their key player so far this season, so we had done a lot of work through the week, looking at how we could limit his involvement in the game,” Connor continued.
“On the ball, he’s been one of the best players in the league this season because he likes to play off-the-cuff.
“Again, our middles did a great job of getting up in his face and stopping him from doing what he’s best at, so they deserve a massive pat on the back for that effort.”
