Hull FC vs St Helens player ratings as one man stands out with 9/10

St Helens brought an end to their five-game losing streak by turning on the style against a depleted Hull FC, winning 46-6.

Paul Wellens’ side have slipped down the table over the last few weeks, with injuries to key men building up and contributing to their poor form. However, with pressure starting to mount, the Saints rediscovered their mojo ahead of what promises to be a make or break period, running eight tries in against the Black and Whites.

Saints were the better side from the off at the MKM Stadium and were unfortunate not to open the scoring as Matty Lees crashed over, only to be denied by the hand of Logan Moy, who prevented the ball from being touched down. The Merseyside outfit soon had their first points on the board, though, as Daryl Clark broke the line to free the lively Harry Robertson, who in turn put Lewis Dodd over the line.

With confidence beginning to flow once more, the Saints began to build on their dominance, with Tommy Makinson going over in the corner after some quick hands from Curtis Sironen.

Sironen was the provider for Saints’ third try just after the break as well, as he broke the line before putting the ball on a plate for Dodd to dot down for a second. Clark got himself on the scoresheet as he caught Hull napping with a run from dummy half.

With Brad Fash being sinbinned for a late hit, Saints flexed their muscles even more and got over through Matt Whitley and Agnatius Passi, while Jake Burns bagged a brace. Jack Walker got over late for FC but it was nothing more than a consolation.

St Helens have work to do over the coming weeks, but on the back of their morale-boosting win in East Yorkshire and with more players returning, you simply can never write off the Saints.

Man of the match

Daryl Clark. Enjoyed himself against what was a very poor Hull FC side. Found holes and exploited them with regularity. Hull simply couldn’t handle him.
