Hull FC head coach John Cartwright has claimed that the club will taste success under their new owners Andrew Thirkill and David Hood.
Cartwright had argued that is is a “matter of when” with the Australian assured on the fact that the new ownership will bring success to the MKM Stadium.
He has made those comments when interviewed by BBC Radio Humberside with the new head coach discussing how the pair of Thirkill and Hood have gone about business so far, whilst also assessing what they will bring.
The duo took charge at Hull FC in December when long-term owner and chairman Adam Pearson stepped away. Thirkill had previously been the Leeds Rhinos President whilst Hood is also a successful businessman.
“Really good, they’re both successful people and very approachable,” Cartwright said when asked how the pair have impacted the club so far before he made his bold statement.
“They’re not used to not having success and the same will go for this footy club.
“The pleasing thing and the thing that all Hull FC fans can look forward to is success because these fellas are in it for the long haul and that means we’re going to get success.
“When that happens, I’d love to be able to say right now but success will come here – it’s just a matter of when.”
It is a very bold statement given that Hull FC have not made the play-offs for a number of years and the fact they finished tied on points with relegated London Broncos in 2024, with the capital’s side beating them twice.
That season marked the club’s worst-ever win percentage but Cartwright thinks change is coming in fortunes after the wholesale changes at the club. Among those changes are his appointment and that of Richie Myler as director of rugby, as well as the change in ownership.
Explaining the dynamics at the club, the Australian explained: “They’re hands-on in the business. It’s been a bit of a whirlwind for them, they’ve taken on a club in a short period of time. They’re working on making every section of the club better.
“Football will probably be the last section they get to, they’ve let Richie and myself be in control of that but they’re only a phone call away if anything is needed.”
Next up for the Black and Whites is Joe Westerman’s testimonial against Castleford before they enter the Challenge Cup and then begin their Super League campaign.
