Hull FC struck with huge blow ahead of derby

Another of Super League’s huge derbies as we head into Rivals Round next week over Easter has been struck by a hamstring injury.

The huge Good Friday derby between Wigan Warriors and St Helens has already been hit with a huge hamstring injury for both sides.

First Jai Field limped off against Leigh Leopards in the Battle of the Borough after chasing a kick late on in Wigan’s win in that derby which will likely rule him out of next week’s derby against the Champions.

Speaking after the game on Sky Sports, Wigan boss Matt Peet confirmed that it is very unlikely he will play against St Helens after a hamstring problem:

“I’m 99% sure he won’t be playing. We wouldn’t risk him even if it wasn’t that bad. We have options, these squads are put together for the season and I look forward to trying to work that out and not just against St Helens.”

Asked if French could move to the halves to replace him with Cade Cust injured, Peet said:

“I will leave him where he is if he keeps doing what he did so we might have to find a replacement in the halves.”

Speaking after this in his press conference, Peet confirmed that Field would need a scan:

“Jai Field is going to need a scan. Pulled hamstring, we’ll be patient with him whatever he needs.”

He also confirmed that Liam Marshall missed the game through injury.

Meanwhile, St Helens star Alex Walmsley evened out the blows as he was forced off early in the Champions’ win over Wakefield Trinity yesterday with a hamstring injury of his own.

This hamstring curse has struck the other huge Good Friday derby as well with Tex Hoy leaving the field with a hamstring problem for Hull FC today after a 34-6 defeat to Warrington Wolves.
