Hull FC star late call up to Rugby League World Cup squad

Samoa have been hit with a bit of controversy recently.

Jarome Luai’s chances of playing in the tournament took a hit after celebrating his Grand Final win with Penrith Panthers as he used a racial slur on Instagram.

However, the sat stand-off looks clear to play however Luciano Leilua has been forced to stay in Australia.

The star backrow who plies his trade at North Queensland Cowboys has been charged with common assault for a reported instance of domestic violence and thus has been stood down by the NRL.

This left a hole in the Samoa squad which has been filled by Hull FC star prop Ligi Sao.

Sao has been one of Super League’s best props in recent seasons at the MKM Stadium and has represented Samoa in the past even in the nines tournament back in 2019.

He also has first hand experience of playing England doing so for the Combined Nations earlier this year at the Halliwell Jones so he will offer great experience to Samoa as they prepare for the World Cup opener against England at St James’ Park in a week’s time.
