Hull FC star Carlos Tuimavave has spoken about the club’s preparations for 2024 as they hope for a stronger campaign in 2024.
The centre has given an update on the club’s pre-season preparations as the current Hull skipper spoke to BBC Radio Humberside:
“Obviously a lot of new faces, a lot of young new faces, definitely making me feel a bit older. But nah it’s good, they bring a lot of energy to the group and it just feels a bit refreshing around the place to have a different group of players and they’re all going well and they’re all pushing us.
“The good thing about these kids, they come in and we give them information and advice, they listen and they take it on board, which I think is really good.”
The Black and Whites again fell away at the end of the 2023 which has become a common trend across the years.
Tuimavave assessed why this happened again in 2023 despite the fact they had a new coach in charge in the shape of former Super League Champion Tony Smith.
Smith showed when he led Leeds Rhinos to Grand Final glory in 2004 and 2007 that he can time his run for the end of the season but Hull FC did the opposite in 2023.
So what does Tuimavave think went wrong. He said: “Yeah that’s the question everybody’s asking isn’t it? It seems to happen over the last five or six years, to be honest. We always have that stumbling block towards the end of the year and like I said, I don’t know why.
“We’ve had discussions as a group and we feel like our training intensity drops in that later part of the year and we see our performances seem to drop as well. The big talk over the pre-season has been our intensity in training and keeping it at that level. So far the intensity’s been pretty good but we need to take that into the season and be the way we train and the way we prepare for games.”
The Black and Whites will begin the season against rivals Hull KR.
