Hull FC signing says “we won’t lose a derby while I’m here for sure”
Hull FC have made some major signings but none as big as the two stars they have drafted in from the NRL.
They have signed Jake Clifford and Tex Hoy from Newcastle Knights as they put together a brand new spine that could become the new star partnership in Super League.
Hoy has now spoken about the move and what he knew of Super League when he arrived.
He said to the Sportsman: “I didn’t know much so I watched some and it’s a lot more free flowing and it looks a bit quicker as well.”
He has also heard that Super League fans are more vocal despite the fact they are fewer in number.
“I’ve heard back home that we get more people but they’re not as vocal,” Hoy said, “They have all their songs and chants which I’m looking forward to hearing. They’ll be sure to give you a big kick up the arse if you’re struggling.”
A new experience in a new country, Hoy has a new coach though he is not the only one enjoying his first taste under a new coach.
He has now had his say on his new coach Tony Smith:
“He’s very laid-back compared to what I’m used to back home, he’s been good. He’s got a lot of knowledge and he’s letting us play what we see, over the next couple of weeks we can gel hopefully.”
Under the two Grand Final winner and four time Grand Final runner up, Hull FC could be back to competitors in 2023 if so they could also dominate the Hull derby against Smith’s old club and Hoy spoke on the expected dominance his Hull FC side will have over the derby:
“I’ve heard that before I even came over (importance of Hull derby), I heard it’s a really big occasion for both teams and the whole town plus even the Super League. We won’t lose one while I’m here for sure, that’s my goal and hopefully we’ll be the strongest Hull team in the competition.”
The fullback has also said that he is aiming for the top four in 2023:
“The goal for every team in the competition is top six but we need to look past that and go top four to make sure we have a chance at winning the competition in general. Top six is a minimum but top four is what we aim for.”
