Hull FC set to complete first marquee signing under John Cartwright

Hull FC are arguably the busiest side in Rugby League at the moment. The Black and Whites are in the midst of a major overhaul after a disastrous start to 2024 has seen them win just one game from their opening 13 in the Super League.

With new head coach, John Cartwright, set to join the club ahead of the 2025 season, he is certain to be working closely with Director of Rugby, Richie Myler, to shape a squad for the 2025 season. John Asiata has already been confirmed, joining the Black and Whites from Leigh Leopards. Oliver Holmes and Zak Hardaker will reportedly make the same move.

FC are also interested in bringing Elliot Whitehead back to Super League and in re-signing Jordan Abdull from Hull KR for 2025. Jayden Sullivan has been reported to be on Hull’s radar. Now, reports in Australia have hinted that the move may be moving closer to completion.

The Daily Telegraph in Australia reports that Sullivan could be on the verge of his much-discussed transfer to the MKM stadium. They report that inbound Hull boss, Cartwright, is set to make Sullivan his first transfer for 2025. The report states:

“Reports out of England state new Hull FC coach, NSW assistant John Cartwright, is about to sign his first NRL player – Wests Tigers five-eighth Jayden Sullivan.” The Daily Telegraph said.

“Sullivan has failed to crack a regular spot at Concord this year with young Lachlan Galvin and Aidan Sezer seizing the halves positions.

“And Sullivan’s future at Wests Tigers looks even more uncertain given the club has signed Panthers and Blues five-eighth Jarome Luai.” before adding, “Cartwright will take over at Hull from next season. Sullivan is contracted at Wests Tigers until the end of 2027.”

Sullivan would likely command a marquee salary if he does make the move to Super League. Hull also continue to be linked with England international, Elliott Whitehead, as he approaches the end of his contract with the Canberra Raiders.
