Teams like Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors and Hull KR have been the ones to really catch the eye in terms of recruitment ahead of the 2024 Super League season.
But we shouldn’t overlook the likes of Hull FC who have made a number of statement signings.
The vast majority have been in the pack with Herman Ese’ese and Franklin Pele both being brought in from the NRL to boost their pack.
They have also signed Leeds Rhinos star Liam Tindall to replace Huddersfield Giants bound Adam Swift.
But the black and whites are not yet done. They are set to sign another outside back according to Adam Pearson.
He said on the club’s website: “We potentially may have one more outside back as well so there’s a couple more to come in that’ll be nine in, six up, so 15 different personalities, a couple of new faces in the backroom team in physio and conditioning and coaching so it’ll feel like a new energy in a new environment and I’m really excited about it.
“I think that if we can hold our fan base together for one big push this spring and hit the ground running, I think we’ll surprise quite a lot of teams next season.”
Pearson is very passionate and underlined how he would like a change to the league structure:
“If we’re talking about IMG then we should be talking about things like playoff structure. We have this long season and then we rush through the playoffs as though we just can’t wait to get to the Grand Final. Let’s make a bigger competition of the playoffs.
“I personally think it should be a 14 team league and I think that the loop fixtures then will not be an issue but it’s IMG who have got to come up with these initiatives.
“There’s little things like golden point. Let’s give each team one point and then whoever wins it, the second point. Let’s look at bonus points like in rugby union.
“There’s nothing that irritates me more than when somebody scores a try, they put the ball down for a minute and do the hair and wipe the hands. Make them kick the goal within the minute as they do in union.
“Six Agains, I’d scrap them. I just don’t think they achieve anything and they lead to too much emphasis and basically allow the referee interfering. I just think it’s wrong, just add a penalty or not and let’s play the game.
“I think there’s little things that IMG could be doing to the game now to improve it while they’re working on the bigger picture of attracting eyeballs and pushing viewing figures up to get better broadcast deals.
“I think somebody needs to be looking at the game and saying there doesn’t need to be three minutes between somebody touching down and kicking off again. Let’s keep the action flowing. Let’s keep supporters engaged. Let’s make the game even better because it is a great game certainly better than Union, but we can make it even stronger.”
