Hull FC have been rocked by the news that Andre Savelio will be out for the rest of the season.
The Polynesian forward was sent for scans over the weekend which have shown that he has ruptured his ACL and will be required to go for surgery in the near future, Hull Live has reported.
“Andre has done his ACL,” Hodgson told the publication. “Unfortunately he’s going to be out for the season. He’ll have an operation in a few weeks.
He’s disappointed, he only found out today, as did we. It’s heart-breaking for him.
“He played 25 minutes with it which is amazing to be fair but unfortunately it’s just one of those things. We’re gutted for him.”
The Black and Whites just about got over the line against Warrington Wolves today with an 18-16 win.
But, with Warrington in the driving seat until the final few minutes following a late Matty Ashton try, Hull went up the other end and looked to have forced their way through with Manu Ma’u.
Referee Chris Kendall went to the screen, but gave an on-field verdict of try which left video official Marcus Griffiths no choice but to award a try – even though the ball could not be seen.
And, for Wire boss Daryl Powell, it’s a rule that needs to be changed.
“I just think they’ve got to change the rules,” Powell said on Sky Sports following the game.
“You’re kind of guessing about what you’ve seen, but we will improve from that, in terms of effort and spirit that was awesome.
‘The ball is up, the referee’s guessed, but it’s the rules.
“There is a different way of doing that – we’ve got a system here and one different one in Australia and it’s such a big call in a game of this tightness.
“You’ve got to get it right and guessing isn’t the way to do it.”
